The Proctology Unit of the Hospital began to apply a new and very effective painless surgery procedure for the treatment of hemorrhoids, which doesn’t present sequelae and facilitates a faster postoperative recovery, among other benefits for patients.
Without counting the classic surgery for this type of conditions, since January of this year and, the Coloproctology Unit has carried out around thirty interventions using the innovative procedure, with a 100% success rate.
It is the first institution in the country that incorporate and apply this procedure. In Latin America it was implemented in Argentina at the same time as in Uruguay and previously in Mexico.
The pedicle ligation arterial process guided by Doppler a pexia (HAL-RAR) has clear advantages over classical surgery and banding.
Dr. Patrick Lyford-Pike, as Dr. Gustavo Veirano, Head of the unit, have received training from abroad to apply and optimize the procedure. In Barcelona, for example, it is performed on an outpatient basis and it is not ruled out that soon it will also be the same in the British Hospital.
In the almost 30 cases of patients operated so far at the British Hospital, 100% success was obtained in controlling the bleeding and also in the resolution of the prolapse. The average hospitalization was 24 hours and they required low levels of anesthesia.
