The Department of Dermatology has incorporated narrow-band UVB ultraviolet radiation phototherapy equipment for the treatment of inflammatory dermatological diseases.
Phototherapy has an anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative action, acting at the molecular level, thus slowing down the cell cycle. Its application covers a wide spectrum of skin diseases, from lymphomas, when they are detected in their initial stages, psoriasis, vitiligo, atopic dermatitis, both in adults and in babies and children. With this new technological addition, our patients can receive a complete approach, from early diagnosis and timely therapeutic treatment at the Hospital.
Phototherapy treatment does not require prior preparation and does not interfere with the person's normal life. It is generally administered 2 to 3 sessions per week, depending on medical indication, and although they are generally prolonged treatments, they are very effective.
The new equipment stores the data obtained from the patients and the Hospital is working so that the data will soon be automatically saved in the Electronic Medical Record of each patient. In addition, a smaller phototherapy device for localized areas was incorporated.
This service is in charge of Drs. Mercedes Laporte and Claudia Guebenlian, specialists in Phototherapy, accompanied by a Nursing team with technical training in handling the equipment and treatment protocols.
