EVENT PLACE:
Borges writes, respecting the rigorous eleven syllables: "and the habit of weaving hendecasyllables." But where does this habit for Castilian literature come from? Why does our language seem to breathe so naturally in eleven tenses?
Just as some Eastern languages ??seem built for haiku, our language displays all its beauty and splendor in the fourteen hendecasyllabic lines of the sonnet. And it was in Spain, in the 16th and 17th centuries that verses were filled with light and mystery.
The lecture "The Gold of the Centuries" explores the Spanish Golden Age through the most notable sonnets of the period. Some verses by Boscán, Garcilaso, Cervantes, Herrera, Góngora, Quevedo, Lope, the Argensola brothers, and Gabriel Bocángel will transport us back to the 16th and 17th centuries and show us all the beauty of our language.
