Fortunately, "pediatric emergencies" are uncommon situations. Nevertheless, they demand a quick and effective answer from our health care professionals. Medical skills and abilities are necessary competencies in the healthcare team. Their learning requires a solid theoretical content, which must be followed by practical aspects to drive the incorporation of up-to-date techniques. For this reason, the availability of training scenarios and the identification of opportunities for improvement inside the health team, is very important in order to increase the efficiency levels of care. Because of the few cases of critical patients in pediatric age, training and learning opportunities are limited. In order to approach this matter, three advanced simulation workshops took place between the 20th and the 24th of March in our Pediatric Emergency Service. “Advanced Simulation” or “High-Fidelity Simulation” is a learning methodology with internationally-proven effectiveness in the training of professionals, the optimization of healthcare assistance, and the preservation of the patient safety. Nationally, there are only a few recent experiences, being the British Hospital the first Private Healthcare Institution to adopt it. The workshops had the participation of work teams available for the simulation, and were oriented to both, pediatricians and the usual Nursing Staff from our Emergency Service. The practice of this innovative learning methodology, well-received by the participants, was conducted by Prof. Agda. Dra. Patricia Dall’Orso Head of Pediatric Emergency area, and Dr. Mariana Mas in collaboration with the Head Nurses Marbys Gonnet and Nely Alvez. The “High-Fidelity Simulation” enables real-time practice of clinical situations that require immediate action, reinforces leadership abilities and strengthen team work.
