The celebration of the 160 anniversary of the British Hospital is a good opportunity to visit the British Hospital and update on the different areas, achievements and goals. The British Hospital counts since 1999 with a Housekeeping Department, which is focused on guaranteeing members, users and patients`companions the best experience during their stay, through the care of all details. In relation with the interior design, the hospital hospitality, and at the same time with a strong emphasis on the hygiene and the hospital cleaning, every day the department develops a complex task that involves a team of more than 200 people. The focus of attention of the area is on "the non-medical aspects that contribute to the patient's rehabilitation and to the best experience of the patients` companion during their stay at the hospital," summarized the Housekeeping Manager of the British Hospital, Marta Varela. The elegance, functionality and care of the details that members, users, families and patients` companions express in hospital surveys, is the result of the department's work closely connected with the architects who led the different stages of the building construction, as well as with the referring doctors of the different areas and specialties in the hospital . The British Hospital has 140 rooms with a warm and comfortable design to guarantee the patients and their families the best attention, both from the welfare and the experiential point of view. "We aim at both, a classic and modern style, an elegant and discrete environment, without ignoring it´s functionality," mentioned Marta Varela. In the day to day, the Housekeeping Department also works as a connection between different services, such as cooking, laundry, maintenance and cleaning, among others. Marta Varela recalled that her department has been developing "according to the hospital needs" and she draw the attention to "what it is seen, as a painting, a flower, an armchair or a decoration detail" and also "to how important is to fulfill the cleanliness protocols in specific areas of the hospital, "to prevent falls and other sort of adverse events. The Housekeeping personal staff has the support of the nurses, who train the rest of the personnel in the accomplishment of the techniques and protocols of the hospital health care. The department is also integrated by three Housekeeping staff – as in Uruguay does not exist the specialty in hospital hospitality -that coordinates and supervises the maidens team. The British Hospital Housekeeping Manager said she is "proud of people's comments, who value the most the good treatment and kindness from the hospital personal staff." She finally emphasized the permanent training that receive the Housekeeping staff, to "maintain and improve what already exists" and "keep us updated".
